Longtime Checotah basketball coach Jason Dowdy resigned his position as head basketball coach to take over as the Wildcats new Athletic Director.
“To be able to coach at Checotah has always been something that I always wanted to do-kind of a dream. I had three coaches in four years. I always wanted to come back and add some consistency to boys program. It’s been a great opportunity to be able to coach kids of friends, relatives, and fellow classmates. I think I’ve added some consistency to the program and we’ve had success. I’ve always wanted to hand the program, when ready, down to someone who cared about Checotah Basketball as much as I do. I’m very excited about Malcolm Warrior’s opportunity to step in and take over where we left off. He loves the kids like I do, and he’s more than ready and deserving of the opportunity. He will be assisted by Cade Colburn. I had the opportunity to coach both of these guys, and they were great kids to be able to coach. They are also great adults and I am very excited that two local boys will be leading the program,” Checotah Athletic Director Jason Dowdy said.
Dowdy had a very successful career coach at Checotah with multiple Area appearances, Regional and District Championships.
Dowdy will continue to coach crosscountry and golf.
