At this time of year it is traditional to make an attempt at change. It is almost as traditional to break those resolutions.
It is easy to want to change, but very hard to make the change permanent. I believe the reason that so many resolutions fade or fail is that we rely on our own limited power.
In Proverbs 3:5-6, the writers tells us, “Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; 6 in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”
I think we fail because we attempt God-sized tasks with human-size power. We also fail to prioritize things. If we struggle with a habit, we need to get our hearts right with God and then in His power beat the habit. The Proverb teaches us to trust God first and in all things. If we put him over everything in our lives then we are free to make the changes that we need.
I hope that you are resolving to put God first through worship. You can find strength to keep that resolution by worshipping with others who struggle just like you. We would love to meet you at First Baptist Church. Sunday worship is at 10 a.m. Bible study is at 8:45 a.m.
