“My Lord and my God.” exclaimed Thomas when the resurrected Jesus suddenly appeared for the second time among his disciples as they sat locked in their upper room a week after his death. Thomas had been absent the first time Jesus appeared and had refused to believe Jesus was alive unless he could touch Jesus’ wounds himself. But now he instantly recognized Jesus the moment Jesus spoke to him. “Have you believed because you have seen me?” Jesus asked. “Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have come to believe” (John 20:19-29).
