The Checotah Wildcats wrestling program continues to be one of the most successful in eastern Oklahoma with head coach Brett Oleson at the helm. The success continued this past weekend with three athletes qualifying for the state tournament.
The Checotah Wildcats wrestling program continues to be one of the most successful in eastern Oklahoma with head coach Brett Oleson at the helm. The success continued this past weekend with three athletes qualifying for the state tournament.
Checotah’s Sam Anderson (12-10) placed fourth in the 106-pound division, Cord Montgomery (14-10) placed third in the 160-pound division and Luke Collett placed second in the 120-pound division. Collett is the defending champ in his class.
Montgomery defeated Tyler Fixin of Sequoyah with a pin 2:38 in the match.
Wildcats Landen Degman (15-6), 126 pounds and Kyler Pouncil (16-8) at 220 pounds will be alternates for the state tournament.
Collett is listed as one of the top four wrestlers in the state in the 120-pound class in Class 3A with Alex Prince, Vinita, Gabe Valencia, Perry and Hunter Fitzpatrick, Salina.
“We’re really proud of the entire team. These continue to leave everything on the mat. We’re going back to work and get ready for state,” Checotah head coach Brett Oleson.
